Manisha and Jay’s Westin Waltham Wedding from this past wedding season is one of my most memorable from the season. Most of the wedding was very traditional, but they were both so nice and respectful of each other and my second shooter and myself that it stands out for me from the rest of the bunch. The girls and guys got ready at their respective parents houses and we all met up at St. Julia Parish in Weston, MA for photos and the ceremony. It was a traditional Roman Catholic ceremony with two additional Indian customs – The Manthrakodi and Minnu. The symbolism of The Minnu is a small gold pendant inscribed with a cross. The Minnu is strung on seven strands of thread from the Manthrakodi. The Minnu is tied around the neck of the bride by the bridegroom. The tying of the knot signifies the life-long bond of marriage. The Wedding Sari (Manthrakodi) is placed on her head. This is the moment when she becomes a member of the husband’s family. To symbolize the event, a woman from the family of the bridegroom takes the place of the matron of honor in a welcome gesture. The presentation of the manthrakodi symbolizes the groom’s promise to always love and cherish his bride. After the ceremony we headed to the Westin in Waltham for cocktail hour and the reception. They had many guests fly in from all over the world and it was great to see everyone together having a great time in celebration of the couple! Thanks for having us for your wedding day!
