I’ve known Kristen since my freshman year of college. She was my RA and dorm neighbor’s best friend. We’ve spent a lot of time making and talking about photographs and still update each other on work we are making. Often, we’ll ask one another for advice or an opinion on something to get a fresh perspective. She and Mark were together throughout most of our time at school, and at least once a semester he would fly out for a week or so. He would further contribute to our conversations about art due to the fact that he has a long standing fine-art and gallerist career.
But enough about our friendship, let’s talk wedding details! I flew out to Denver the morning of their wedding, got my rental car, and immediately drove to their one of a kind ceremony site which was a friend of their’s home. It had a huge lawn and two ponds, one of which is where the couple had their ceremony and the other for the reception. They had well over 200 guests and people that flew in from all over the world. A short list of their guests included the head of the MCA Denver, 40 or so working artists, five or six former interns who ran the bar and cocktail hour, several friends from New York, Boston, and LA just to name a few. This Denver Artist Wedding was probably one of the most stand out in my career because there is nothing like the light (or the heat) in Colorado in the middle of the summer. There was no shortage of heart felt speeches as well as two dance performances – one by Kristen’s brother and girlfriend in Irish Step Dancing, and the other by the Denver based dance company Wonderbound which they have done a tone of work with. The flowers were all done by Bloom where Kristen occasionally works photographing their arrangements for their advertising and website. The food was family style BBQ and their DJ was a friend from a local club. At the end of the night a bunch of us jumped into the pond next to the tent and had a late night swim.
