While looking through at most of my favorite venues to shoot at I am noticing that barns and estates seem to be a running theme. The Commander’s Mansion in Watertown, Massachusetts is another local estate that I love to shoot weddings at! I have shot four weddings at the Commander’s mansion one in the spring, 2 in the summer, and one in the fall. Each season brings about different foliage and opportunities for photographs around the property. It’s fantastic when venues come with their own character that you can bring your aesthetic to and make the venue feel unique to your wedding. Each of my clients have added their own style to the Commander’s Mansion for their specific tastes. I had a client from the south who wanted an outdoor living room, and 10 cakes which you will see below. I personally love the getting ready rooms for their big windows, high ceilings, and vintage/antique furniture. I love having the option to do photos in different locations throughout the day. The back around the trellis when all the vines grow over it. Or the front of the building with the large columns and period architecture. The wedding ceremony typically takes place in the back of the house between the trellis. Cocktail hour is an indoor-outdoor thing where you can be in the mansion, or you can be outside on the back porch (a spot I also enjoy for first look photos). I’ve seen a lot of verity in terms of the table arrangements and what each couple brings in that fits their personal taste and style. I loved one wedding where they brought in long wooden tables and big chandeliers. If you are looking for a wedding venue with a lot of built in charm that is close to Boston and still has fantastic outdoor opportunity take a look at the Commander’s Mansion!
